Bank Battle
Like President Jackson, I am a Democrat who believes the Bank of the United States is undemocratic. It is run by private bankers who as Jackson calls them, agents of "special privilege" grow rich every day with public funds. Especially that arrogant Nicholas Biddle, president of the bank who uses the bank only to benefit the rich. Biddle became worried that their precious bank would be destroyed by Jackson and so two of those terrible Whigs, Henry Clay and Daniel Webster thought up a plan they thought was clever to get what they wanted. They persuaded Biddle to apply the bank's charter for renewal early and then Jackson would veto it (which they knew he would). Ha! They thought that most Americans supported their Bank and that if Jackson vetoed the bill then the people would be mad with him (therefore losing him the election). Well they were wrong. In the election of 1832, the common people supported Jackson and rejected the Bank of the United States.
